Evelon Ferguson’s Recovery Story
Evelon Ferguson’s journey to recovery began at her lowest point—when she was homeless, unemployed, stuck in an abusive relationship, and had a probation warrant hanging over her. “I was completely broken—spiritually, emotionally, and physically,” Evelon recalls. “I had no self-esteem, no self-love, and no sense of worth. Walking into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous on October 8, 2003, was a desperate move, but it turned out to be the beginning of a new life.”
Not knowing what to expect, Evelon showed up with an open heart, an open mind, and a willingness to do whatever it took to change. “That’s when I realized I needed God more than anything,” she says. Building a relationship with Him became the foundation of her recovery and gave her the strength to rebuild her life.
Faith and Fellowship: The Cornerstones of Recovery
For Evelon, faith has been the most powerful force in her recovery. “The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you cannot cure a spiritual sickness with a natural solution—you must have God,” she explains. Finding people who shared her faith and her desire for a real relationship with God made all the difference. A sponsor guided her through the early stages of recovery, helping her understand that she didn’t have to do it alone.
Giving Back Through Service
Today, Evelon’s recovery journey is not just about staying clean—it’s about helping others find their way out of darkness. “I stay open to change, I help other women find their way out of this spiritual sickness, and I serve wherever I am needed,” she says. By sharing her story and offering support, she hopes to show others that recovery is possible.
A Message of Hope
To anyone still struggling, Evelon’s message is simple: “Keep your heart and mind open. There’s hope, and if you’re willing to do the work, your life can change too.” Her journey proves that it’s never too late to turn things around. With faith, support, and a willingness to keep moving forward, a new life is always within reach.
Evelon’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery is about more than just getting clean—it’s about finding purpose, faith, and the courage to help others do the same.
